Bracing for a Storm

Taxi snowstorm

New Yorkers are in a tizzy as they prepare for the possibility of the city’s being hit by Hurricane Irene. I went to Target this afternoon, which was completely sold out of every flashlight, radio and D battery. The grocery store near my apartment is out of jugs of water. I’ve stocked up on my share of batteries, water and nonperishable food, and I have a backup plan if I need to evacuate the city (thanks, Tracy!). Maybe it’s excessive — and I’ve been mocked for my preparations — but I’d rather be ready just in case. Besides, if there isn’t an emergency, I’ll just have enough water and soup for, oh, a month.
