TSA: Intelligence ‘Unkown’

I’m flying to Michigan tomorrow, and I’m kind of dreading the new TSA screening methods. At least I have typos on official signs to amuse me while my dignity is compromised.

I snapped this error with my iPhone a few months ago while I was standing in the security line at the Alpena airport. The sign on the wall by the metal detectors contains a pretty big mistake — unless an “unkown” person is a new type of terrorist I’m not aware of.

I am from Alpena and “Unknown Persons” is an actual Persons. His parents are Mollie and Steve Persons (Hippies back in the day, hence the name “Unknown”). He’s developmentally disabled (due to his parents being hippies back in the day) and the airport had a big problem with him giving “gifts” to passengers. They wanted to encourage folks to just refuse the gifts in hopes that he would get discouraged and not show up anymore. It worked, and that is why you are unlikely to see Unknown on your travels.

    Haha! Love it.

In all fairness to TSA, this sign was put up by the airport authority – not the TSA. I think it was there long before TSA took over. That is why they put their sign in front of it – to block the atrocious misspelling. Either way – it’s pretty funny that no one has thought to correct it or just take it down.
